It works well, and the storms do more for the heat than the shade does. Interior storms are the ones to plan around, since they have to come out again in spring. Where they sit inside the reveal we mount the shade on the face of the casing, so nothing gets dismantled twice a year. Exterior storms make no difference at all to how the shade is fitted.

The honest answer is to cover only part of it. Where the decorative glass sits in the upper sash, we shade the lower sash alone and leave the leaded panel open, which keeps the thing you actually want to look at. If the whole window is decorative, an outside mount above the trim lets the shade sit fully clear of the glass when it is raised.

Not really, since the whole thing stacks into a few centimetres at the head and leaves the sash clear. Raise the shade, lift the window, put the shade back down in front of the screen. The awkward ones are windows where the shade is mounted outside on the casing and the stack sits low enough to be in the way of your hands. We note which windows you open and mount those a little higher.

Close enough that nobody picks it out from a doorway, provided the fabric is still in the range. Dye lots shift a little between production runs, so two shades hung side by side in the same opening can show a hair of difference where two in separate rooms never will.
