You can, and it works best when it is planned from the start. Two sets of panels on one track means a single hook style, one finished length and one set of carriers, so the change takes about twenty minutes. Storage is the catch, since a lined panel wants to hang or roll rather than sit folded in a bin. Most people do this in one room, not the whole house.

Blackout-lined panels get a room genuinely dark if they are wide enough to return to the wall at each side and long enough to reach the floor. Light comes around the edges, not through good lining. A wrap-around track or a return bracket handles that. If the window faces a street light and you want no leak at all, put a blind behind the panels.

On a bent track that follows the angles, so the panels travel round the corners instead of stopping dead at each one. The alternative is separate panels per section, which stack into the corners and block a fair share of the glass. Bay tracks need solid fixing at every bend, and in an old house that means finding real wood behind the plaster before we quote it.

Only if the track was chosen with that in mind. A motorized track is a different extrusion with a carrier chain inside it, so retrofitting a motor to a plain track means new hardware and usually new hooks. If motorizing is even a maybe, we fit the motor-ready track now and add the drive when you want it. That decision costs little at install and a fair bit afterward.
