It depends on the trim. Where the original wood casing is deep and in good shape, mounting into the header above the window keeps the proportions the builder intended. In a room with a nine-foot ceiling and thin modern casing, going close to the ceiling makes the window read taller. We bring both options to the consultation and hold the rod up so you can see it.
