Drapery & Curtains in Toronto

Toronto drapery work is concentrated in the heritage neighbourhoods (Forest Hill, Rosedale, the Annex) and the high-end condo market downtown. The heritage homes typically need full custom drapery with proper hardware to fit the original window casings, which is significantly different work from contemporary installations. The luxury condo market wants more contemporary ripple-fold and grommet styles. We see a lot of layered installations over rollers or sheers in both markets, which is the standard high-end Toronto specification. Velvet and silk fabrics are more popular here than the GTA average.

Drapery & Curtains Service Near You in Toronto

Toronto is not one market, it's a dozen. A King West loft with 12-foot exposed-concrete ceilings needs a different mounting approach than a Riverdale Victorian with 130-year-old window casings that were never square to begin with. Our installers work in the city every week and have learned both the hard way.

Condo work is half of what we do downtown. Most buildings along the waterfront and in CityPlace require board approval for anything visible from outside, and many limit installs to weekday hours with elevator bookings. Tell us your building and we'll usually know its rules already — we've worked in hundreds of them. For drapery & curtains, we bring samples that match the building-standard exterior colour where one is required.

Measurement appointments in Toronto book 3-4 days out, sooner in midtown and the east end. Parking is on us. Production takes 2-3 weeks because everything is cut to your exact frames, and the install itself runs 2-3 hours for a typical home or condo — longer for whole-floor glass.

We are in Toronto most weeks, often on the way to jobs in Burlington or Milton. If you want a price, the form takes a minute and the visit costs nothing.

FAQ

Drapery & Curtains Questions

Everything you need to know about drapery & curtains. Need more help? We're here.

Can you hang drapery from the concrete ceiling of a Toronto condo?

Yes, with ceiling-mount tracks anchored into the slab. Downtown units rarely have a framed header above the window wall, so the track goes into the concrete with the right anchors, which our installers drill routinely. The result is a floor-to-ceiling line of fabric that makes an eight-and-a-half-foot condo ceiling read taller than it is.

Does drapery suit a Victorian home in Cabbagetown or the Annex?

It's the native treatment for those rooms. Tall narrow windows, high ceilings and original trim were designed with drapery in mind, and heavier fabrics hang the way the proportions expect. We mount into the trim header or above it depending on the condition of the wood, and we'll tell you at the consultation which your casings can take.

Can I layer drapes over the roller blinds already in my condo?

That's the most common drapery order we take downtown. The roller keeps doing the daily work of glare and privacy while the drapery adds the softness a glass-walled room otherwise lacks. Sheers are the usual pick for the layering panel. The track mounts independently of the existing blind, so nothing you own gets touched.

How dark can blackout drapes make a downtown Toronto bedroom?

With a lined blackout panel, wraparound track returns and enough overlap at the centre, very dark. Downtown light pollution comes in at angles a flat blind can't cover, and fabric that returns to the wall at both ends closes those gaps. It's the configuration we install for people who sleep days, and the difference over a bare blackout blind is noticeable.

What fabric weight works for Toronto condo heating and drafts?

A mid-weight panel with a standard lining does more thermally than people expect, softening the cold that radiates off a February window wall. Heavy interlined drapery, the traditional insulator, mostly belongs in the city's older houses where drafts are real. The consultation brings fabric books, and you'll feel the weight difference in hand before choosing.

What is the timeline for custom drapery in Toronto?

The free consultation and measurement books within 3-4 days. Sewing custom panels takes 2-3 weeks, sometimes slightly more for interlined work. Installation of tracks and panels for a typical room is done in a couple of hours. Pricing is quoted at the consultation once fabric and heading are chosen.
