The motor hides inside the roller tube, so it does not add width, but it does push the tube diameter up a size. In practice a motorized roller wants a centimetre or so more depth in the reveal than a manual one. On a shallow century frame we measure that at the quote and, if it is tight, mount above the casing instead. Nothing is lost visually when the head is set high.

They are a much smaller cell than the packs that make the news. A blind motor draws a trickle of power a few times a day, so the battery is low capacity, charges slowly over a few hours and spends most of its life resting. The units we fit are certified for exactly this use. Treat the charger like a phone charger, plugged in while you are home, and there is nothing to lose sleep over.

Zebra runs on a roller tube like anything else, so the same motor drops straight into it and the banded fabric behaves exactly as it does by hand. Cellular shades take a different motor built for a lifting cord rather than a tube. Verticals are their own system again. The one thing to know is that a motorized zebra loses the fine hand adjustment people use to nudge the bands, so we set two or three favourite alignments instead.

The motor senses the resistance and stops, then sits there rather than forcing through. You send it back up and clear whatever is in the way. It works the same for a plant pot or a window handle someone left turned. It is not a delicate sensor and it will not stop for a curtain brushing the fabric, but it will stop before anything gets crushed.
