About 4.5 metres on a single headrail, which covers most garden door assemblies in these houses. Past that we join two tracks and stack them to opposite sides so the meeting point sits in the middle of the opening. The vanes are cut individually to the floor clearance we measure at several points, since a long run rarely sits perfectly level end to end.

Tilting the vanes about a third closed kills the glare and still leaves the room bright, which is what most people want in the middle of the day. Because the vanes turn as a set, one wand movement changes the whole wall at once. Full closure gets the room dark enough for daytime viewing, though some light still passes at the vane edges.

Not if they are specified properly. A long vane needs a stiffened fabric or a PVC insert down the spine, and a weighted hem at the bottom to keep it hanging true. Fabric alone at that length will curl at the edges within a couple of seasons. We build the inserts in as standard on anything over about 2.4 metres of drop.

The wand is the safe option because no loop cord exists anywhere on the blind. On a tall door the wand runs long enough for an adult to reach comfortably, which puts the tip within a child's reach as well. That is fine for tilting. We mount the traverse control on the fixed side of the door so the stacking does not become a toy.
