Outside mount, above the frame on the wall or the ceiling. That keeps the vanes clear of the screen door and lets them stack past the opening so the glass sits fully exposed when you want it. Colour shift over a decade of direct south sun is possible but slight in the whites and neutrals. If one vane does warp, it unclips and a replacement clips in without anyone touching the rest of the blind.

You can leave it off. The chain keeps vanes hanging in line and stops them swinging in a draft, but it also gives a child something to pull and a dog something to catch a paw in. Without it the vanes move freely and settle back on their own. Weighted hems in the base of each vane do most of that work anyway.
