The tube and the motor are matched, so a manual blind is not converted afterward by dropping a motor into it. What we do instead is note which windows are candidates and keep the fabric and sizes on file, then rebuild those blinds on motorized tubes when you are ready. The fabric stays the same, the brackets usually stay, and you can do it one room at a time rather than the whole house.

The solid bands hold up longer than the sheers, which is where you see age first. On a south or west window, expect the sheer to lose a little crispness after several years and to read slightly warmer in colour. It is gradual, and most people notice only when a new blind goes up beside an old one. Rooms with a deep overhang or a mature tree in front age far slower.

Often, yes. The handle folds down on many casements, and when it does an inside mount clears fine as long as the frame gives us about fifty millimetres of depth for the brackets. Where the crank is fixed or sits proud, we mount outside on the casing so the fabric hangs past the hardware. We check the handle position at the measure and note it, because it changes the mount before it changes anything else.

They do. Most zebra fabrics run bands somewhere between 50 and 90 millimetres, and the wider ones read as a calmer, more horizontal pattern across a big pane. On a tall narrow window a wide band gives you very few stripes down the drop, which reads as restful to some people and heavy to others. They work the same either way, so it is a proportion decision. We hold the sample against the actual opening before anyone commits to it.
