They suit shaded rooms well because you can hold the sheer bands open and keep some privacy at the same time. Under full summer canopy the standard light-filtering fabric is usually the right call, since a darker weave makes those rooms gloomy. The same window gets direct low sun from November to April once the leaves are down, and the solid bands handle it.
