The polyester fabric handles steam without going limp, so the shade itself is fine. The room is the problem. Steam with nowhere to go ends up inside the cells and on the frame, and after a couple of winters you see marks along the folds. Run a fan or crack the window after a shower and leave the shade up while the room dries. A light filtering fabric dries faster than a blackout one.

The caveat is the fabric, which is not wipeable, so a bad mark stays a bad mark. On rentals we spec a mid grey light filtering fabric rather than white, order a spare for the busiest window, and keep the sizes recorded for a fast swap.

If the exact fabric has gone, matching by room is the honest approach, so the front stays consistent from the street and the back runs a current fabric. Take one old shade down and we compare the two in daylight before ordering.
