We hang stainless beaded chain as standard and it matters more than it sounds. Plastic chain stretches under a heavy blind, and a stretched chain skips on the clutch sprocket, which feels like the blind slipping when it is really the chain. Metal costs a little more and stays the same length for the life of the blind. Both take the same tension device, which has to be screwed to the wall either way.

Long enough to work the blind, short enough to stay out of reach. We normally finish the loop around three quarters of the way down the drop, which on a floor-to-ceiling window still leaves it well above a small child. The tension device anchors the bottom of the loop to the wall so it cannot swing or form a slack coil. If that still sits low for your room, the answer is a motor rather than a shorter chain.

Reverse roll brings the fabric down the front of the tube, away from the glass, which clears sill hardware and window cranks. The trade-off is a bigger gap between fabric and glass, so more light spills in at the sides. Standard roll runs the fabric close to the glass and blocks light better, but it can catch on a handle. We decide it at the window with the hardware in front of us.

We remake it. Our own installer takes the measurement, so a blind that does not fit is our error and not a conversation about who wrote what down. That is the practical reason we do not quote from numbers a customer sends in. Rollers can be narrowed on the tube in some cases, which is quicker than a full remake, and we will tell you honestly which of the two you are getting.
