Those boxes are usually a drywall or plywood return about ten centimetres deep, enough for a vertical headrail if there is solid backing and the vanes clear the front edge when they turn. In a room with colour on the walls, a wrapped valance is worth the small extra and changes nothing about how the track runs.

Lay them flat somewhere clean rather than stacking them on edge, because a vane left leaning against a wall for three months holds the bend. Keep them in order if the fabric carries a pattern.
