The same colour, usually, and not always the same openness. A front room facing the street can carry a more open sheer band because it never gets the direct afternoon load, while the rear windows facing west want something tighter. From outside the house still reads as one order, since the backing colour is what shows. We work the room list out at the measure.

They can, though we often leave them bare. A short blind on a transom rolls up into a band that still shows, and the light gain from covering it is limited unless the sun comes straight in. Where the transom does cause glare, we match the fabric to the window below and run it on a motor, because nothing at that height gets touched otherwise.

Only what sits directly under the window. A sofa against the wall gets pulled forward half a metre and put back, and we do that ourselves. Beds and desks are worth clearing before we arrive if the window sits above them. Everything else stays where it is. A ladder needs about a metre of clear floor in front of each opening.

The polyester bands shed most of what lands on them. Fingerprints and juice come off with a slightly moistened microfibre used lightly, and the fabric dries without a ring if you leave the blind down. What does not come out is ink. For a lower band that takes constant contact, we sometimes suggest raising the blind and leaving the bottom third of the window clear.
