They soften rather than fail. Polyester band fabric holds colour well, and what shows first on a south or west window is a slight loss of crispness in the sheer, usually somewhere past the eight year mark. A dark band shows it sooner than a bone or greige. The fabric can be replaced on the same tube and brackets when that day comes, which keeps the job small.

The blind itself does not mind. Band fabric is polyester and it neither shrinks nor goes musty at the humidity a house runs at. What the humidifier changes is the window behind it, because more moisture in the room means more of it condensing on cold glass, and a closed blind keeps that pane colder still. Watch the bottom rail for damp and leave the blind up a little on the coldest nights.

They can, with one caveat. A zebra rolls up and down, so the whole blind has to be raised to use the door, and on a door you go through every day that gets old fast. If the door is mostly decorative or you use a second entry, a wide zebra looks clean and covers the glass well. For daily traffic we usually steer people to verticals or a drapery panel that parts to the side.
