The motor senses the resistance and stops. A plant pot moved onto a sill, a window left open with the screen in the path, a cat sitting on the ledge: the bottom bar meets it, the current draw climbs and the motor gives up rather than pushing through. Send it back up and it runs normally. The one thing that confuses it is something soft that gives slowly, so a curtain bunched behind the blind is worth clearing.

Not on the motors we fit, and it comes up more than you would think. A tube motor runs at a fixed rate, roughly eight to twelve seconds across an ordinary window, and there is no dial for it. What does change the feel is the size of the blind, since a tall shade simply takes longer. If somebody wants a slow theatrical drop in a dining room, that is a different class of hardware and we would say so.

We come and swap it. The motor slides out of the tube end, so the fabric, brackets and hardware all stay where they are and the visit is short. Motors we fit are covered by our 3-year warranty on the blind, and the batteries themselves are a wear item like any rechargeable. Failures are rare, and they almost always show up in the first season rather than in year six.

The motor can, the blind cannot. A tube motor slides out of one roller and into another, so if you are having a new blind made for the new window we can carry the motor across and you pay for fabric and hardware only. The old fabric is cut to the old opening and will not fit anything else. Tell us at the measure, because the tube has to be specified to take it.
