Barely. A single layer of fabric across the glass takes a small edge off, and nobody has ever told us it solved the problem. Sound comes through the glass, the frame and the wall. If a room on the Steeles side is loud enough to bother you, a heavy lined drapery over the roller helps more, and so does anything done to the window itself. We will not promise a blind can do it.

It changes the length, not the product. We stop the fabric above the heater rather than running it down in front, so warm air still moves up the glass instead of getting trapped behind a fabric pocket. It also keeps the hem out of the heat, which matters over a few winters. If the window is short and the heater sits tight under the sill, an outside mount clear of both is the tidier fix.

Light filtering glows and hides the view. Solar screen stays dark to look at and holds the view through it, because it is a woven mesh with real holes rather than a soft cloth. A filtering fabric in a living room makes the whole window a soft panel of light, which suits an evening room. A screen keeps the yard visible all day and gives you nothing after dark.

The fabric usually does, the bottom bar takes the punishment. A cat pushing under a lowered blind lifts the bar and drops it, which over a year or two works the fixings loose and puts a bend in a light bar. We spec a heavier bar on those windows and set the drop to finish just above the sill, so there is a gap to walk through instead of a blind to shove aside.
