Not as one track. A vane has to swing through its full arc, and at an inside corner the two runs would collide before either closed. We fit two tracks that stop a few centimetres short of the corner, which leaves a narrow line of glass uncovered where they meet. Most people never notice it. The alternative is one track carried across the corner on a return, and that hides more window than it covers.

Usually, with the track set forward. We measure from the face of the handle, not the glass, and mount the track far enough out that a closed vane hangs in front of the handle without touching. On a door where the screen slides on the inside track, the vanes have to clear that as well. It adds 30 or 40 mm of projection at the head, which nobody notices once the blind is up.

They do, because you can close them flat early and open them by nine when the sun is off that side. That is easier than raising and lowering something at breakfast. A light-coloured PVC vane bounces most of the heat, while a fabric vane softens the light instead of blocking it. If the room is used every morning, we would go with PVC and a wand rather than a chain.

Yes, and it is one of the better places for them. A walkout door usually sits in a wall with limited height above it, and the vanes take up almost nothing at the head. The thing to watch below grade is moisture. PVC vanes shrug it off, fabric ones can go musty in a damp basement, so we fit PVC down there and keep the bottom edge well clear of the floor.
