Dry, and only dry. Pollen settles on the sheer bands as a dull yellow film and lifts off with a vacuum brush head run over both faces with the shade fully lowered, or with a dry microfibre cloth. Do not spray anything at it. Water turns pollen into a stain that sets into the weave and stays there. Two passes through May normally sees out the season.

A lowered zebra sits close enough to the glass that most of the air passes in front of it, so on a normal setting you get nothing. Two situations do cause a tap. A blind left halfway with the bottom rail hanging free will swing under a strong downdraft, and a fan on high with the window open behind it moves anything. Running the fan in reverse through the winter pushes the air up at the ceiling and settles it entirely.

It does not, though it changes what we hang there. Film has already taken much of the heat out before it reaches the room, and a dark blind held closed against a filmed pane traps what is left in the gap between the two. That heat has to go somewhere, and on an older sealed unit it goes into the glass unevenly. So we keep the fabric light over film and leave the blind short of the sill so air can move.

Sometimes, and it hangs on what the installer does to the opening. A retrofit insert sits inside the old frame and takes twenty or thirty millimetres off the inside dimension, which is enough to leave an inside mounted blind too wide to fit. A full frame replacement usually keeps closer to the original opening. We take the blinds down for you before the window crew arrives, hold the sizes on file, and refit or remake once the new units are in and measured.
