Less than people fear, though it is worth a phone call to the office first. Running a blind right down to the floor looks tidy on paper and scuffs the hem within a season, especially where a vacuum or a chair leg finds it. On floor to ceiling glass we also weight the bottom bar a little more heavily than usual, because a long drop of fabric with a light rail waves about every time the balcony door opens.

Less than people hope and more than nothing. The fabric hangs on the room side of the glass, so heat is already through the pane before the bands see it. Closing the solid bands through the hottest hours drops the radiant load and stops the floor baking. If cooling is the real goal, a solar screen fabric or a honeycomb shade does more work than a standard zebra.

They will move. A zebra hangs free at the bottom with a light rail, so moving air pulls it against the frame and you hear it tap. An inside mount with a snug fit rattles less than an outside mount does. Some people run the shade two thirds down on breezy days and leave it there. If a room stays open to the water all summer, verticals are the quieter answer.
