Cotton sateen is the standard and it covers most of what these rooms need. It shields the face fabric from sun and adds enough weight that the panel hangs straight. It takes some chill off the glass as well. Interlining goes a step further and suits a north-facing front room. Blackout lining belongs in bedrooms, and it reads stiffer than sateen does.

Yes, and it is a traditional detail in houses of this age. A panel across a wide cased opening cuts the draft between a heated front room and a cold hall, and it ties back when you want the rooms open to each other. The rod has to clear the casing, so we measure the opening and the wall above it at the same visit.

Longer than blinds, because everything is cut and sewn to your measurements. Plan on several weeks from the design visit to the install, and longer where the fabric is a special order from a mill. Hardware sometimes arrives before the panels do. We give you a date at the order and tell you promptly if a fabric goes on back order.

Some clients do, usually a heavy winter panel for a lighter linen once the weather turns, and it works when the track and the hooks match across both sets. Store the off-season panels rolled rather than folded so the creases do not set. Most people find one lined set with a sheer behind it carries the whole year comfortably.
