We fit a bottom rail with a catch as well, so the blind holds partway rather than sliding down. Third-floor rooms in these houses do well with a screen fabric.

A single roller does modest work. It stops some of the radiant chill and slows the air moving across the glass, but the fabric is thin and the sides are open, so cold still spills around it. A blackout lining helps more than a screen does. If winter comfort is the main reason for the order, a cellular shade or a lined drape will outperform any roller.

A bright window behind you is the problem, because the camera exposes for the glass and leaves your face dark. Pull a dim-out or blackout roller down behind the desk and light the room from the front instead. If the desk faces the window, a light screen fabric cuts the glare on the monitor without shutting out the daylight.

It can be done and the risk is colour drift. Fabric is dyed in lots, and a batch made eighteen months apart can sit a shade off under daylight.
