Custom Zebra Blinds Old North – Free Installation

It depends on the room and the trim. In a front parlour with original mouldings, most Old North owners land on wood blinds or drapery instead. Zebra reads better in kitchens, upstairs bedrooms and anywhere that has already been renovated. A textured cream band beside painted trim sits quietly. A high-gloss white one looks like a modern part bolted on.

Inside mount brackets fix to the frame with two small screws each, and on original woodwork that is exactly what people want to avoid. The alternative is an outside mount onto the plaster above the opening, which leaves the trim untouched. Where the wall will not hold a fixing, we go to the ceiling and let the blind hang clear of the frame.

Storms do not stop an inside mount, but they change how the window behaves. The air gap between the two panes already does insulating work, so a light-filtering zebra is usually enough and a heavy thermal fabric is not needed. Condensation appearing between the panes points at the storm being sealed too tightly. That is a window question rather than a blind one.

Two blinds is almost always the answer. A single blind spanning the mullion looks wrong from outside, and it forces one band position on two rooms' worth of light. We hang the pair from a shared fascia so they read as one treatment. In a heritage house with paired sashes, the bottom rail heights matter more than anything else you decide.
