Screwing brackets into a window frame or the drywall above it is normal work and has never voided a builder warranty we have seen. What can cause an argument is drilling through a vinyl frame into the sealed unit, or into a jamb that hides a mechanism. We mount to the frame face or the header instead, and on a house still in its first year we keep every fixing where a service visit can see it.

What ruins a wet roller is rolling it up damp, because the fabric dries in contact with itself and sets a wavy line across the width that never pulls out. Coated blackout fabrics are the fussy ones. About 8 to 10 mm each side on a normal inside fit, because the blind has to clear the frame to roll without rubbing. In a living room nobody notices. In a bedroom you do, especially with a blackout fabric and a streetlight outside. For rooms that need real darkness we mount outside the opening and run the fabric wider than the glass, or fit side channels.

It settles more than it damages. Roller fabric is a flat surface with no folds to trap grit, so a monthly wipe with a dry microfibre cloth keeps it looking right. The part that suffers is the clutch, where fine dust works into the mechanism over years and makes the chain feel gritty. Keeping windows closed on windy days does more for that than any cleaning routine we could recommend.
