The side you approach from, which is not always the side that looks tidiest on a drawing. In a country kitchen that usually means the end nearest the room rather than the end nearest the wall, so you are not reaching across the opening every time. The track, and it is the part everybody forgets. Grit works into the channel the carriers ride in, and once it does the set drags and turns unevenly rather than gliding. Run a vacuum crevice tool along the underside of the headrail once or twice a year. Do not oil it. Oil holds the next round of dust and turns a gritty track into a gummy one, which is a great deal harder to put right.

Dry indoor air. A house heated hard, especially with a wood stove running, can drop below twenty percent humidity, and PVC picks up a static charge in those conditions. The vanes attract each other and hold dust at the same time. Wiping them with a cloth dampened in water and a drop of fabric softener kills the charge for a season. Getting humidity back near 35 percent fixes it properly and helps the rest of the house.

Not if it is supported properly, and that is a question of brackets rather than of the track itself. We set intermediate brackets roughly every 600 mm along a long headrail, more often where the vanes are the heavier PVC. A track carrying four metres of vanes on end brackets alone will bow within a season and then the carriers bind at the low point. If the ceiling above is open joists, we fix to those.
