About 60 mm of clear space for the headrail and brackets, plus a little more to get a screwdriver in. If the drywall above the opening gives you less than that, the track goes on the ceiling instead and the vanes hang past the frame. That version usually looks better in a low room anyway, because the eye reads one line from ceiling to floor rather than a band of wall above the blind.

It is worth planning for. PVC softens well above anything a baseboard produces, so melting is not the concern, but a vane hanging directly against a hot element all winter can take a slow bow along its length. We set the drop so the bottom finishes above the heater rather than in front of it. Where the unit runs the full width, an outside mount that stands the track further off the wall solves it.

Leave them hanging. Close the vanes flat, run a damp microfibre cloth down each one, then turn them and do the other side. PVC takes mild soap and water without complaint. Fabric vanes are stiffened with a backing and should never go in a machine, because the stiffener washes out and the vane goes limp. For dust alone, a vacuum brush on the lowest setting once or twice a year is plenty.

Concrete is the easiest thing we fix to, once we are actually into it. The trouble in a finished basement is the strapping and drywall in front, which is often only 20 mm thick and holds nothing on its own. We use a masonry screw long enough to bite past the finish into the concrete behind. Tell us if there is in-floor heat or wiring chased into that wall, because we drill blind otherwise.
