Depends where the new frames land. If the opening holds the same width within a few millimetres, the same tube and fabric can be re-bracketed and rehung. Anything narrower and the fabric has to be cut down, which is a shop job and rarely worth it on a blind that already has years on it. If the window work is booked, wait and measure after. Fitting to a window that is about to change is money spent twice.

A thin line down each side, roughly 6 to 10 mm, because the fabric has to clear the brackets and run without rubbing. In a living room nobody notices it. In a bedroom on a bright morning it reads as two bright stripes on the wall. If that bothers you we mount outside the opening and run the fabric wider than the frame, which trades the tidy recessed look for a darker room.

Not on an inside mount. The cassette that covers the roll needs less than 10 cm at the top of the opening, so it tucks into the frame and leaves the casing and moulding fully visible. An outside mount is the version that hides trim, and on a good old casing we avoid that unless the window is badly out of square or you want the room properly dark. End caps come in a few neutral finishes if you want the head to disappear.

Not wasted, though what you are buying it for changes. North light is even and there is no glare to fight, so the sheer band stops being a sun tool and becomes the thing that gives you daytime cover without dimming a room that is already soft. Go more open than you would on a south window, and keep the band pale. A dark fabric in a north room reads gloomy by four o'clock in November.
